The Competition

Last weekend we attended the Chesapeake regional competition. Although we did not get into to top 8 teams, we still placed 36 out of the 62 teams that attended. On Thursday, the team assembled all the parts that were taken off the robot for finishing touches like our shooter and cRIO. By the end of the day we weeded out all the bugs and errors we were having in terms of controlling the robot manually. Also on Thursday, we passed the inspection test so that we could actually play in the qualification matches.

Friday was day one for the qualification matches. Out of the 7 matches of the day, we scored in 2 of them, ironically, they were the only two we had won that day. Our main weakness was our autonomous code. Overall, we improved after every match. In our second match, we had won the game with one point while the other teams scored nothing.

Saturday was the day for remaining qualification matches and elimination matches. We had two matches that day. Although we did not score any points in the first match, we did, however, score autonomous points in our last match. By the end of our matches we had won three, lost five, and tied once, and we also improved our robot, in terms of functionality and control. Even though we did not ascend to the eliminiation matches, we plan to compete in off-seasonal competitions such as Battle O’ Baltimore and Duel on the Delaware over the summer. In the mean time, we will be improving on the robot’s structure and programming while organizing the team as the seniors prepare to leave for their respective futures.

Robot Comunication Fixed

On Saturday, We had some problems connecting to the robot and running the code we had recently made up. After careful screening of the code we made, we found out that one small difference was stopping from the robot to act on the driver’s remote control commands. With the help of our mentors John Morber and Lloyd Emokpae, we figured out the problem and now continue to finish the rest of the code. We also finished creating a basic logic for our shooter that will automatically target one of the four hoops. Our plan for Monday is to create some security for the electronics and belt system. Additionally, we will also be practicing and calibrating the shooter for optimum performance.

FIRST Play Date Update

We will not be bringing the robot to the play date due to some functioning errors. We will however be scouting and networking with other teams while learning more about the competition environment. We will be leaving at 7:00 A.M.

FIRST Play Date

Parkville High Schools robotics team will be attending the annual FIRST Play Date this Saturday, February 18 for making sure that every component on our robot and the programming code works. It will be a fun and exciting learning experience for us all; especially since it will give us a last minute check to see how far the robot has come in order to be ready for competition on March 8, 9, and 10, 2012.

Sincerely,
Michael W, Co-President Team 007

Build Season: Day 39

Today we worked on brackets, both for the turret motor and the brackets that will hold the plexiglass up on the sides of the robot. The plexiglass will help support the robot by connecting the four posts and also be decorative with our sponsors and designs on them. We also worked on other parts of the turret motor, and added encoders to the bot.
